Angela wears a floor length gathered dress by DIYcouture

How to make a gathered dress

This is a simple dress with a lined chest area that creates a flattering curve above the bust. The top of the dress is pulled in by multiple rows of elastic that hug the chest, creating shape and texture.

The dress can be made as an evening gown that sweeps the floor, as a midi to be worn in the daytime and in cool weather with boots and tights, or as a cropped mini. It can be edged with elastic at the bottom to create a bubble shape. It can be made with broad straps cut from fabric or skinnier ones of ribbon. It can made as a strapless bustier. The dress can be made using multiple strips of different fabrics for a colour blocked look.
