Designing the collection

The twelve-piece DIYcouture collection is designed by Rosie Martin:

"I roughly designed about 30 pieces of clothing on paper. I used magazines, catwalk images from the Vogue website and books about contemporary fashion to influence my designs. I had a go at making all the designs then scrapped all those that were too fiddly or complicated."

"I wanted a fairly even balance of tops and bottoms, and I looked for garments that were versatile, i.e. all those that could be interpreted in various ways using the same basic set of instructions. I thought about the shapes that would be most flattering to a variety of bodies, without having to do precise tailoring."

"The final twelve are all simple, classic pieces that can be almost endlessly re-invented."
