Fabric shops in Soho

The fabric shops in Soho are clustered along Berwick Street, which is filled by a bustling vegetable market on most days, and is also a good place to get a strong coffee at Flat White. The Berwick Street shops are (with a couple of exceptions) characterised by overpricing and inacessible staff. The shops generally make an effort with decor, so that they feel boutique-y, but this doesn't really compensate for the bank breaking prices or add much to the true fabric shopping experience, apart from a shadowy feeling that perhaps you shouldn't be traipsing so carefree and eager across these polished floors with your inquisitive fingers. There are, though, exquisite fabrics to be found along Berwick Street and visiting the shops can be as pleasurable as visiting a museum. The Cloth House at number 47 is unique in London for selling a wide range of organic and recycled fabrics. Click the images for details on each shop.
